Well, it took me a little longer than I thought it would but I finally came up with my 101 in 1001. These are all of the things I plan to do in the next 1001 days. Beginning today, I have until February 1, 2011 to complete the list. Here goes!
My "BHAGs"...Big, Hairy, Aggressive Goals
Professional
- Design and implement a comprehensive curriculum for Spanish at the lower school
- Attend at least 2 conferences and/or training sessions
- Complete my class website and have it fully integrated into my lesson planning
- Contact at least three international schools and research opportunities abroad
- Attend a language institute for Spanish immersion
- Have classroom completely ready and all lessons done 2 full weeks before school starts next August
- Work with classroom teachers to integrate Spanish curriculum into their grade-level curriculum
Travel - Visit friends in New York during Christmas
- Go sightseeing in Washington, D.C.
- Organize a trip for a group of friends to a tropical location
- Go to Costa Rica
- Visit a new country
- Spend a weekend at a bed and breakfast with Brant
- Visit Rhonda and Jim's orphanage in Nicaragua
- Take a group of students abroad
Community - Find an organization with which to volunteer
- Become involved with Young Professionals
- Get to know more people in the Rome community (outside of Darlington)
Health and Fitness - Drink only water for one month
- Work out 4 days a week for 3 months straight
- Ride my bike at least twice a month
- Run the billy goat trail without stopping
- Take a Yoga class
- Begin Pilates
- Begin training again (running)
- Run a half-marathan
Reading, writing and learning - Read a book a month for 6 months
- Read four books during summer break
- Become a better blogger
- Learn how to create better websites
- Finish reading our marriage books
- Begin to learn Chinese
Spiritual - Become a member of a church in Rome
- Become involved with the youth ministry of that church
- Have a quiet time every day for 2 months
- Attend a women's retreat
- Serve as a mentor for high school girls
- Journal every day for a month
- Complete an in-depth study of the Bible
- Begin to pray with Brant in the mornings
- Go on a mission trip
Creative - Buy a Canon Rebel
- Learn the Canon Rebel inside and out
- Finish and hang a photo gallery in our living room
- Finish hanging drapes in our apartment
- Put up bead board in the dining room and paint
- Have pillows and seat cushions made with purchased fabric
- Have one of my photographs transferred onto a large canvas
- Photograph a wedding ;)
- Finish Honeymoon photo book
- Create a photo book for someone else
- Photograph downtown Rome in black and white
- Photograph downtown Newnan in black and white
- Make a coffee table book out of my travel photography
- Photo journal of the first year of marriage
- Put all of my Spain pictures in a scrapbook
- Paint our front door red
- Learn how to use my sewing machine
- Make something (pillow, bag, etc.) by sewing
Fun Stuff - Go snow skiing
- Host a holiday cookout for friends
- Learn how to do makeup like the pros
- Improve my golf swing
- Beat Brant in a tennis match
- Host a dinner party
- Take salsa lessons with Brant
- Go see a drive-in movie
- Go camping for a weekend
- Ride horses on the beach
- Take a painting class
- Begin to experiment with painting and mixed medium art
- Paint a canvas to hang in our apartment
Habits - Do not check facebook for one month
- Do not drink coffee for one month
- Do not look at J.Crew dot com for one month (yikes!)
- Stop watching E! News and reading people dot com for one month
Organization - Reorganize all closets
- Organize financial documents
- Create a filing system for lesson plans and handouts
- Finish wedding thank you notes by Oct. 17
- Clean all of the clutter out of my life; downsize "stuff"
- Clean out and donate clothes
- Empty the last few boxes in the guest room
- Hang pictures in the guest room
Financial - Pay off all debt
- Put a minimum of $500 into savings each month
- Do not shop for 2 months straight (except for necessary purchases)
- Give 10% every month
- Invest in a ROTH IRA
- Learn to use Quicken online to track and manage all of our accounts
Last but not least - Encourage someone else to start a 101 in 1001.
- Go visit my great grandmother in Alabama (she is 97!!)
- Hand write and snail mail a note to 10 people that I love
- Call and catch up with 5 people I haven't spoken to in a while
- Condense all of my calendars into 1
- Study Spanish an hour a day for a month straight
- Do something outside of my comfort zone
- Come up with a plan to improve my time management
- Put all of my students birthdays onto one master calendar (so I can keep up with them!)
- Get together with friends in Atlanta at least once a month
- Get a puppy!
